How to find beauty in awful things using a shift in perspective

How to find beauty in awful things using a shift in perspective

I didn't like birds, at all.

In Belgium you mostly see all sorts of pigeons, many crows and blackbirds. Not very exotic, right? In my eyes city-pigeons only have one goal: getting in your way. They also like to flock together looking for food scraps and make doing their business on statues their mission. I believed they were the scum of the birds.

Is there an animal you don't like either? Then I've got an idea for you I'll state below.

After a few months of living in Australia, the country radically changed my view on these flying animals. I noticed how much noise they make. Especially yellow-crested cockatoos. Those white ones with a yellow set of feathers on their head.

Apparently they are world's loudest parrots. It's curious, these birds really claim your attention. You cannot not notice them, so I started to observe them while. That's how I realized they each have their own personalities. The one was more ballsy and playful, the other one quite shy.

Major takeaway

I observed more species throughout the following months and carefully had to admit to myself that each bird has some type of characteristic I believe is beautiful. Erhm.. yes, even a bloody pigeon.

I challenge you to also search for something nice in the animal you generally dislike. I'd like to know what it is, once you've found it!

Share it in the comments, I'm sure others will get inspired by what you found.
