Why black (and green) Friday shouldn't be a thing!

Hey, score your black Friday deal this week!
Do you also cringe every time you hear this term "Black Friday"? Unlike Christmas, Black Friday is not about a greater meaning.
It is about the unsustainable growth of big brands and nourishing the necessity with their consumers of buying more-more-moreeee🤑.
Here's some facts:
- We buy a whopping 30% more during this week, black AND green. The carbon emissions for Black Friday deliveries are equivalent to 435 return flights from London to New York. That's by UK citizens alone.
- 80% of our Black Friday purchases get thrown out after just one use. Read that again.
As an ethical photographer and nature advocate I would love to see a shift from:
Buying everything we want to compensate for a "need" we are missing. 👉To buying only what will make us more whole.
This may sound contradictory coming from a photographer who sells prints, so let me explain:
Yes, people need a roof over their head. And they don't really neeeed a big print of wild horses in their bedroom.
But there's one thing to consider here. Having a roof over your head does not mean you're feeling at home.
Your home should be a place where you feel safe enough to be yourself. And having decoration that reflects your values can help with that.
When all your physical and mental needs are met, you will be your best self. And an inspiration to others to do better as well.
🎯So it all comes down to this: When, where and why you're purchasing a product should be a very conscious decision that you stand behind unapologetically.
Even if this product is "less sustainable". There, I said it.😮👏
Just remember that you don't need to do perfect ALL THE TIME.
You making responsible imperfect decisions is far more valuable to the planet and ultimately to yourself.
